Here are the curly hair accessories and tools you will need for the perfect twist out:
What is a Twist Out?
Gather your curls to unlock the magic of a twist out on natural hair. It's the perfect style for transitioning, elongating your hair, and transforming your natural pattern.
A twist out is the perfect natural hairstyle. It involves dividing your hair into sections, twisting the sections, allowing them to dry and set, and then unraveling the twists to achieve gorgeous waves.
Most curls, coils, and tight textures live in the company of various textures and one of the best ways to unify them is a twist out. There are seven (7) steps that include hair twist products to help you achieve your best twist out, yet! No matter your hair type, the foundation of any glorious style out starts with your natural hair: clean, conditioned, and detangled hair. Let's take a closer look at the steps to create the perfect twist out.
Step 1. Shampoo
Shampoo each hair strand thoroughly with PATTERN's Hydration Shampoo. It's a gentle, yet effective cleanser that removes dirt and buildup without leaving your moisture account overdrawn. Clean hair leads us to lasting moisture, exhibits our pattern in its purest form and accepts product more effectively, allowing us to freely sculpt and redefine our pattern.
Step 2. Condition + Detangle
Condition, condition, condition. Choose between PATTERN's Lightweight, Medium, Heavy, or Intensive Conditioner to lock in hydration and nutrients, and make hair super soft and easier to manage. Each one of our shampoo and conditioners for natural hair are beneficial to a range of textures and makes detangling in the shower a breeze! Tangles slow you down. Get them out of the way, with PATTERN’s Wide Tooth Comb, while you're conditioning and before the styling process.
Step 3. Protect
For protection and additional moisture, prior to styling, apply PATTERN's Leave-In Conditioner to damp hair. It detangles, calms frizz, slows down moisture loss, and perks up your texture so you have a head start with definition prior to styling!
Steph 4. Set
Divide hair into large, workable sections to keep the hair organized---which will aid in faster styling. Keep sections you’re not working with in clips or small buns. Within each section, part sub-sections of hair for twisting, making each sub-section about 1".
Split it evenly to ensure that each half is equal from root to end. This will keep you from having to “steal” a piece of hair from the opposite half of the sub-section to complete the twist, if one half doesn’t reach the end. Stealing hair may ultimately cause frizz.
Set your hair with PATTERN's Curl Gel or Strong Hold Gel for high-definition results, with flexible hold and tons of volume and shine. *Be sure that each strand is coated with product for optimal results! When twisting, begin close to the scalp using taut, even tension all the way to the end. Repeat until the entire head is complete.
Keep PATTERN's Mist Spray Bottle filled with water nearby to keep hair texture wet as you work. (If your hair is fine or low density, consider using less product on slightly damp hair.)
Step 5. Dry
Allow your curl pattern to dry, completely, before freeing your curls. Note: Any little trace of dampness could awaken undesired frizz. Feel free to air dry, or activate shine enhancing ingredients by sitting under a hooded dryer.
Step 6. Style
When it is time to release your hair twist, apply a few drops of PATTERN's Jojoba Scalp Oil or Argan Oil Serum (featuring Castor Oil) to your hands and unravel them, carefully, from ends to roots. Separate for fullness to your heart’s content. The hair serums provide your strands with additional nourishment, shine, and protection, and curl definition. Turn up the volume by giving your roots a lift with PATTERN's Hair Pick. Give your curly hair the freedom to be full and take up space for that gorgeous twist.
