What does it mean when the light near the Steam Power Slider/Trigger is white?

It means the steam function is ON. Steam should emit from the holes near the base of the fingers. If not, please check that there is water in the chamber. For more troubleshooting questions please consult the User Manual.

How should I store my Steamer?

When not in use, your steamer should be disconnected, allowed to cool, and stored in a safe, dry location out of reach of children. Do not twist the line cord or wrap it around the Steamer. Allow the cord to hang or lie loose and straight at the point of entry into the steamer.

Is using a Steamer suitable for all types of curly, coily, or 4c hair?

Yes, using a Steamer can benefit all types of curly, coily, or 4c hair. Steam helps to hydrate and moisturize the hair, making it more manageable and reducing frizz, regardless of hair type.

Can steaming over-moisturize the hair?

While steaming can add moisture to the hair, it's essential not to overdo it. Over-steaming can lead to excessive moisture absorption, which may cause the hair to become overly soft and prone to breakage. It's crucial to find the right balance and adjust the frequency of steaming based on individual hair needs.

Can a regular facial Steamer be used on curly, coily, or 4c hair?

While some people may use a facial Steamer on their hair, it's generally not as effective as using a dedicated hair Steamer. Hair Steamers are specifically designed to deliver the right amount of steam to the hair and scalp, ensuring optimal results without causing damage.

Can you steam too much?

Too much water and steam can strip your skin of its natural oils, contributing to dryness and irritation. Finally, because facial steaming dilates your blood vessels, it can cause excessive redness — particularly for people with sensitive skin.

How long can I steam?

The 150ml water tank allows for a 16-minute runtime*, facilitating detangling as required by passing steam through each hair section.

Can I use steam on my scalp?

Like a facial for your hair, steaming opens up the pores of the scalp to remove impurities & buildup. It can also moisten the skin & scalp while increasing blood flow. It is recommended to hold the Steamer 2-3 inches away from your scalp. For safety, the Steamer prongs provide separation between the tool's steam outlets & your scalp.

My steamer is making a clicking noise. What does this mean?

A clicking noise might be heard while in use as the unit converts water to warm vapor upon activating the steam function. This noise can also persist if the steam switch is engaged/turned onwhen the water chamberis empty.

Why is there an extra prong attachment if the Steamer already has prongs?

The prongs will assist in lifting & separating hair to help disperse vapor throughout the target area. Use the extra prong attachment to stretch out curls or comb through product.

What’s included in the Steamer Box?

The box comes with a Steamer with a detachable water chamber & two additional attachments: a Diffuser Attachment that gathers longer curls & coils to steam parched ends & create a halo of vapor, & a Prong Attachment that further lifts & separates hair from root to tip. Plus, a Flush Kit that comes with a small cleaning cloth & an empty bottle to help flush & prevent build-up in the water chamber.

What is the Flush Kit?

The Flush Kit allows you to prime & flush the device. Occasionally when the pump is dry it cannot pull in water & it needs to be primed to help flush out mineral deposits. The Flush Kit includes a small polyester cloth & a 200 ml empty bottle that you can fill with distilled water to help flush out debris. Please refer to the User Maintenance section of the User Manual for more instructions on how to prime & flush.

How do I fill the water chamber/reservoir?

  1. First make sure the appliance is unplugged & remove chamber/reservoir.
  2. Then detach water chamber/reservoir by pressing down on the two buttons on the sides of the steamer.
  3. Open rubber inlet cover.
  4. Fill the reservoir with only water (no additives). It is recommended to use distilled water & keep filled above the minimum fill line.
  5. Replace rubber inlet cover.
  6. Put chamber/reservoir into unit by lining up reservoir into slot & click into place.

Can I use tap water to fill the water chamber/reservoir?

It is recommended to use distilled water to fill the chamber/reservoir. The chamber/reservoir should only be filled with water, no additives.

Should products be applied to the hair before or after steaming?

It's generally recommended to apply products such as deep conditioners or leave-in conditioners to the hair before steaming. This allows the steam to help the products penetrate more deeply into the hair shaft, maximizing their effectiveness.

Can I use the Steamer hands-free?

Yes, you can use the Steamer hands-free. Please ensure that you are placing the Steamer on a heat-resistant, stable & flat surface.

Should my hair be wet or dry before using the Steamer?

Hair can be wet or dry when using the Steamer. To deep condition, the hair should be wet and can be paired PATTERN’s Heavy Conditioner, Intensive Conditioner, Breakage Barrier Mask, Treatment Mask or any hair treatment/mask. To stretch styles with the Steamer, hair should be dry and light steam used to refresh hair and stretch shrunken strands.

PRODUCT PAIRING RECOMMENDATIONS

Can I use my Steamer with my Treatment or Transition Mask (now known as the Breakage Barrier Hair Mask)?

Start by applying your chosen hair mask or deep conditioner to clean, damp hair. Make sure to distribute the product evenly throughout your hair, focusing on the ends and any areas that are particularly dry or damaged. Once the Steamer is ready, sit comfortably and position the nozzle over your head. Allow the steam to envelop your hair for the recommended duration, typically around 15-30 minutes. The steam will help to open up the hair cuticles, allowing the hair mask or deep conditioner to penetrate more deeply and effectively. After steaming, rinse out the hair mask & follow up with a gentle shampoo or conditioner

Can I use the Steamer with the Detangling Nectar?

Yes. Steaming can indeed help with detangling curly, coily or tight-textured hair by softening the hair & making it more pliable. On wet hair coated in Detangling Nectar, start from the ends and work your way up to the roots with the Wide Tooth Comb or Shower Brush, being careful to avoid pulling or tugging on the hair.

How do I use the Steamer with Bounce Back Pre-Poo?

Apply evenly from root to tip of each hair strand on dry hair. Allow the Pre-poo treatment to sit 10-15 minutes while steaming until curl reversion is complete. Rinse with cool water & follow up with Hydration Shampoo & PATTERN Conditioner of choice.

Can I use the Steamer with the Intensive Conditioner?

Packed with Avocado Oil, Shea Butter & Safflower Oil, use the Intensive Conditioner as a deep treatment, applying product from roots to ends. Steam for up to 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.

Can I use the Steamer with the Heavy Conditioner?

Steam unlocks the power of our super-thick Heavy Conditioner for coily & tight textures. Coat strands in the rich cream, use the Shower Brush or Wide Tooth Comb to detangle & steam for up to 10 minutes to restore & revitalize your hair.

TREATING & STYLING TIPS

When should I use the Diffuser attachment on the Steamer?

Gather longer curls & coils in the Diffuser to steam parched ends & create a halo of vapor. Use the Diffuser attachment to hover over hair or to hold longer strands.

When should I use the Prong attachment on the Steamer?

Further lift & separate hair with four additional prongs to steam from root to tip. When used to revitalize styles, the prongs help add volume & stretch natural textures with the steam.

Can I use this to stretch my curls?

Yes, the Steamer can be used to stretch your curls, coils & tight textures using the Prong attachment. The warm steam helps detangle, stretch, reshape and restyle hair for a Day 3 or Day 5 refresher.

Can using a Steamer help with low-porosity hair?

Yes, using a Steamer can be particularly beneficial for low-porosity hair because the steam helps to open up the hair cuticles, allowing moisture to penetrate more easily. This can help combat dryness and improve the effectiveness of moisturizing products.

How often should someone with curly, coily, or 4c hair use a Steamer?

The frequency of steaming can vary depending on individual hair needs, but generally, using a Steamer once a week or every other week can help maintain moisture levels and promote healthy hair growth.

Can steaming help with detangling curly, coily, or 4c hair?

Yes, steaming can help soften the hair and loosen tangles, making it easier to detangle curly, coily, or 4c hair. It's often recommended to detangle the hair while it's still damp from steaming to minimize breakage and achieve smoother results. Pair with PATTERN Detangling Nectar for extra slip.

Can I use the Steamer to reactivate my curls & coils?

Absolutely. Instead of fully rewetting your hair, use the Steamer to gently cajole curls into place, stretch styles & reactivate any water-soluble products in your hair for an easy refresh.

Can I use the Steamer on my wig or extensions?

If planning to steam your hair extensions or wig, it’s important to understand what type of hair it is made of before applying heat. Many synthetic wigs or extensions can be styled with heat tools on a moderate setting, & 100% real human hair wigs can be styled with heat, just like your own hair. We suggest testing a small piece of hair to ensure your extension or wig can withstand the heat.

CLEANING

How do I clean the Steamer?

Flush Steamer with distilled water in the provided bottle (see: Flush Kit). Wipe down the Steamer with the provided soft dry clothafter usage if your hands and/or the Steamer have a hair liquid product on them.

My pump is not pulling in water correctly, what should I do?

Occasionally, when the pump is dry it cannot pull in water & the pump needs to be primed. Using the provided Flush Kit follow the below process to also flush out mineral deposits & debris:

  1. Release/detach water chamber.
  2. Fill squeeze bottle to the top with water & screw on nozzle. (Note: If the unit has steamed in the past but now has a blockage, you can add a teaspoon of white vinegar to the bottle of water. The vinegar will remove minerals & deposits).
  3. Insert tip of squeeze bottle nozzle into the water intake valve.
  4. Apply firm pressure to the squeeze bottle to slowly push a small amount of water into the unit.
  5. Plug in unit & wait for unit to stop flashing.
  6. Return water-filled chamber to unit & test for vapor.
